Heartstopper Season 3 A Coming of Age Journey Filled with Love, Loss & Growth

6 mins read

Heartstopper season 3, a coming-of-age story, explores darker themes this season. This article highlights those main themes of Alice Oseman’s romantic comedy’s latest season. Let’s proceed on this journey filled with Love, Loss, and Growth.

(Trigger Warning: the article contains topics and strong themes like eating disorders and mental illness)

Heartstopper Season 3 is here in all its heartwarming glory. And it’s safe to say everyone is feeling the love just as much as usual with this one. The next part of Alice Oseman’s adaption tells the stories of a bunch of queer teens figuring out love, friendship, and self-discovery.

The characters face a lot of challenges this season. Nick attempts to be Charlie’s best lover. Charlie, on the other hand, struggles with his eating disorder. Nick tries his best to be as supportive as he can. Elle faces uncertainty about her future, and Tao is still dealing with abandonment issues. Isaac explores his sexuality and realizes he is asexual and aromantic. Darcy made a move to come out as a non-binary person and embrace their new identity.

There’s no shortage of obstacles in the way of the characters. But Heartstopper never relents, showing that there is still hope for each of them. Their enduring friendship and unwavering support for each other show the power of human connection.

Okay, before spilling all the deets, let’s talk about one of my favorite moments from Heartstopper Season 3, Episode 1. Have you guys watched season 3, though? If you have, I’m sure you were holding your breath when Nick ran from the shower to tell Charlie he loves him back (barefoot!). Jeez, talk about being crazy in love!

And you know the best part? “Best Day of My Life” by Tom Odell playing in the background.

I think today is the best day of my life

Saw a billboard; it said something like

Everything, everything is gonna be alright…..

A Closer Look at the Lives of the Characters & Their Journey

One of the highlights of Heartstopper Season 3 is how it explores the personal growth of its characters. The depiction of Charlie’s battle with an eating disorder is sensitive. The hurdles stopping him from seeking help and reparation for his negative body image are highlights of the show. Nick supporting Charlie “NO MATTER WHAT” is too perfect if you ask me. But it is also absolutely the right way to treat your partner with love and grace when they are having a hard time.

Heartstopper Season 3 sees Elle on a path of self-reinvention; this season, Elle goes deeper into her creative side and comes to terms with her gender identity. Tao is hooked on Elle. His obsession with Elle sets in motion a plane of tension and danger. We see him wrestle with his insecurities that arise from a history of abandonment. It struck a chord seeing Isaac exploring his aromantic and asexual side. This season represents different sides and diverse identities within the LGBTQ+ community.

Since Nick is going off to college, Season 4 might be about Nick and Charlie trying to make a long-distance relationship work. As Elle delves into her love for art and design, artistic endeavors may be another primary focus. The show already covered Isaac a bit this season, including his struggle with his sexuality. The following season could be his further exploration of what it means to be both asexual and aromantic.
